Degree Day Summary

Description:

The degree day product summarizes degree days for a selected station over a range of dates. The range of dates currently can not exceed one year, but can cross a calendar year boundary (i.e. July 1 to June 30 is an acceptable range). The types of degree days available are: heating degree days, cooling degree days, growing degree days, 86/50 growing degree days, and Baskerville-Emin growing degree days. A base temperature is specified by the user for all but the 86/50 GDD, where 50 degrees is assumed. Logical defaults are provided. The user can ask to display all the daily values during the selected interval or just the summary statistics.

The results consist of the daily maximum temperature, minimum temperature and degree days for the day. In addition, three seasonal accumulations are provided. The first is the accumulation since the first day the user requested. The second is the accumulation since the beginning of the degree day season. For HDD, this is July 1; for CDD, January 1; for all GDD, March 1. If the specified date range crosses this day, the count for the "season" is reset on that day. The third accumulation begins a few months after the second accumulation. For HDD, this is October 1; for CDD, May 1; for all GDD, May 1. This count is also reset on the first day of the season. Between the first day of the season and the beginning of this third accumulation period, the accumulation will be displayed as dashes (-). An "m" following an accumulation indicates that there were one or more days of missing data in the accumulation period.
